With the launch of Path of Exile 3.28, Grinding Gear Games unleashes the Mirage Challenge League — a celestial, Djinn-fueled expansion that doesn’t just add content… it reshapes the Atlas itself.
This isn’t a minor seasonal tweak.
It’s a full systemic shift.
From Astral Realm combat layers and Wish-based modifiers to Atlas restructuring, Voidstone overhauls, and the removal of Harbinger as core content — Mirage is one of the most ambitious league launches in recent memory.
Let’s break it down.
PoE 2 Mirage Challenge League 3.28 – Official Trailer
The Core League Mechanic – Djinn, Mirages & Wishes
The Mirage League centers around a rogue sect of the Faridun known as the Afarud, who are siphoning the energy of captured Djinn for necromantic warfare.
You’ll encounter imprisoned Djinn in physical form across Wraeclast. Defeat their captors — Afarud Warlocks — and you’ll be invited by the legendary Maraketh Sekhema Varashta to enter:
The Astral Realm – A Mirage of Reality
Inside this alternate plane:
-
The world becomes an imperfect copy of itself.
-
Reality fractures.
-
Monsters become more dangerous.
-
Rewards escalate dramatically.
Before entering, Varashta grants you one of three Wishes.
These Wishes:
-
Modify the Mirage’s monster behavior.
-
Influence loot outcomes.
-
Increase currency drops.
-
Generate special caches or mysterious coins.
-
Alter astral hazards and mage density.
At the end of each Mirage, you must shatter the tether binding the Djinn. Every freed spirit weakens the Afarud’s war effort.
It’s fast, dangerous, and reward-heavy.

Is Mirage League Worth Playing?
If you enjoy:
-
Risk-reward combat layers
-
Build experimentation via new support gems
-
Atlas progression planning
-
High-reward endgame boss hunting
-
Lore-driven celestial conflicts
Then Mirage might be one of the strongest leagues in years.
It’s mechanically deep.
Systemically disruptive.
Economically transformative.
And it sets the stage for Wraeclast’s next era.
Final Thoughts
Mirage isn’t just a league mechanic.
It’s a structural redesign of endgame Path of Exile.
Between Djinn-fueled Astral Realms, Atlas centralization, currency rebalance, and the removal of legacy systems like Harbinger and Awakened Gems — this feels less like seasonal content and more like a soft reboot.
Wraeclast has shifted. The Astral Realm is open. The Afarud are waiting.
